Donald C. Martin Sr. age 82 of Ashley, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 2:41 PM at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Donald was born on November 4, 1943, in Morrow County to the late Carl I. and Lois M. (Ward) Martin.
Donald was a 1962 graduate of Elm Valley high School. After graduation, Donald joined the United States Army and served from 1965 - 1971 during the Vietnam War and he was recognized as a sharpshooter. He later went on the work for National Lime and Stone in their customer service department.
Donald was a member of Stantontown Advent Church. He was a dedicated horse trainer in Delaware County. Donald looked forward to the Brown Jug each year during the Delaware County Fair, a tradition that brought him much joy. Outside of his work with horses, Donald was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time in nature. He also had a love for sports, especially baseball, bowling and football.
On June 24, 1977, Donald married Rebecca Sue (Perry), she preceded him in death on August 30, 2013. They spent 36 wonderful years together.
Donald is survived by his son Donald "Buck" (Kristie) Martin Jr. of Ashley, his siblings Dalene Daniels and Leroy (Linda) Martin both of Ashley.
In addition to his parents and wife, Donald was preceded in death by his brother Harold "Hal" Martin.
Friends may call on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington with the funeral service directly following at 12:00 PM, with Pastor Jim Maynard officiating. Following the service, the burial will take place in the Fairview Cemetery (Ostrander), 3447 Ostrander Road, Ostrander, Ohio 43061.
