Donald Helman Obituary

Donald E. Helaman, age 93 of Mount Gilead, passed away Monday, December 8, 2025, at Marion General Hospital. He was born on February 14, 1932, in Ashley to the late John F. and Anna C. (Davis) Helman.

Donald spent much of his life working as a skilled welder, applying his steady hands and strong work ethic to every project he touched. He devoted many years to both Perfection and Stahls, where he became known for his reliability, precision, and dedication to doing the job right. His craftsmanship and commitment left a lasting mark on the teams he worked alongside.

In his free time, Donald could often be found tending to the land he loved farming with the same patience and determination that guided him throughout life. He took great pride in always putting out a large, productive garden, nurturing every row with care. Whether he was out fishing on a quiet day, hunting in the woods, or working on one project or another, Donald was a man who stayed busy and found joy in the simple, hardworking rhythms of the outdoors.

On September 20, 1953, Donald married Betty Jean (Fissell) in Cardington. She preceded him in death on August 14, 2024.

Donald is survived by his daughter Diana (Jerry) Boyle of Mount Gilead, and son Terry (Billie) Helman of Pataskala; five grandchildren: Sonja, Jerry Jr., Andy, Zachary and Jordan; thirteen great-grandchildren; twelve great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his great-grandson Jerry "JJ" Boyle and his siblings: George Helman, Annette Ebert, Viola Frazier, Richard Helman, Betty Ruggles, Elizabeth "Lizzy" Ruggles, Elwin Helman, and Ruth Freedman.
