David John Haenszel

David J. Haenszel, age 81 of Cardington passed away Sunday January 18, 2026, at Grant Medical Center. He was born on September 24, 1944, to the late John W. and Marcia G. (Bailey) Haenszel.

David was a 1962 graduate of Mount Gilead High School. He went on to attend Al-Win Heavy Equipment School.

A lifelong farmer, David dedicated his career to agriculture and service. David was County President and Secretary for Morrow County Farm Bureau and was on the Young Farm Couples Committee. He worked at Whirlpool, Ashland Oil Company, where he measured oil in the tanks and for Morrow County Soil and Water Conservation-all at the same time as farming. He later spent 22 years working at a large cattle farm in Indiana. A member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, he found joy in gardening and had a deep love for the land.

On November 7, 1964, David married Candice E. (Jones) at Center Church in Cardington, who survives in Cardington.

In addition to his wife, David is survived by his daughter Tammy (Jerry Harris) Haenszel of Caledonia; as well as his two sisters Mary (Dennis) Hill of Cardington and Linda (Marvin) Caudill of Marion.

Friends may call on Friday, January 23, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington with the funeral service directly following at 11:00 AM with Pastor Steven Dennis officiating. Following the service, the burial will take place in the Jones Family Cemetery.
