On January 17, 2022, Charles Lynn hung up his chore coat and entered heaven's gate from his farm near Ashley, Ohio. Charles was born January 10, 1932 on the family farm near Waldo, Ohio to parents Arlington Torrence and Ellen Catherine (Klingel) Lynn. He graduated from Waldo High School in 1949, about the same time the family was forced to move from the Delaware Dam area to the farm near Ashley. There Charles spent the next 73 years nurturing a family, tilling the soil, and raising cattle, sheep, horses, ponies, goats, and innumerable other farm animals. From a child he was never without at least one farm dog. He was especially well known for his LynnDale Farms registered line of Duroc hogs, which he raised and showed at numerous county and state fairs.
In addition to farming, Charles drove school bus for Buckeye Valley local schools for 34 years. He also served his community through numerous boards and agencies including the Consolidated Electric Co-op, Peru Township Board of Trustees, Morrow County Fair Board and Ashley Fire Board. He was recently inducted into the Delaware County 4H Hall of Fame and recognized as an outstanding fair supporter by the Morrow County Fair. In his later years Charles enjoyed performing with the Delaware County Tractor Square Dancing group at many county fairs, festivals and tractor shows. Charles was a member of the Alum Creek Friends Church.
Charles is survived by his wife of 62 years Patricia D. Lynn (Davis), daughter Beth Harp (Rodney) of Kilbourne, daughter Joyce Zimmer of Ashley and son Randy Lynn of Marengo. Six grandchildren, Kurtis Harp (Kaitlin), Sarah Preston (Sam), Lee Zimmer (Daisy), Shannon Carroll, Chris Lynn (Erica), Cody Lynn and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends, neighbors, and family are invited to visit Thursday, January 20, from 5:00 to 7:00 and Friday, January 21 from 11:00 till 12:00 at the Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street, Cardington, OH. A celebration of life will follow Fridays visiting hours with Pastor Brad Duncan of the Alum Creek Friends Church officiating. A brief interment will be held at Ashley Union Cemetery.
