Charles E. Givens

Charles E. Givens, age 87 of Cardington passed away Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Ohio State University Hospital East. He was born on April 27, 1936, in Welch, West Virginia to the late Worley and Clara M. (Linkous) Givens.

Charles graduated in 1955 from Sparta High School and retired from Teamsters Local 40 as the Teamsters President.

Charles was a member of the Moose in Marion. He loved fishing, gardening, and working in the cemetery. He never met a stranger and would talk to anyone. Most important to him was his family, he loved spending time with them.

On January 14, 1984, Charles married Sally Marie (Hull) in Mount Gilead at Gilead Friends Church, she survives in Cardington.

In addition to his wife, Charles is survived by his children: Rodney (Ramona) Givens of Ashland, Morgan (Tammy) Givens of Howard, Sara Jane Sapp of Bentonville, AR., Chris Kaelber of Cardington, Ron (Debra) Kaelber of Milton FL., Jody (Tim) Wittkopf of Powell and Jen Kaelber of Westerville; grandchildren: Tracy, Stacy, Jill, Joann, Robyn, Jason, Rashay, Reegan, Ridge, Kyle, Carey, Scottey, Kelsey, Tyler and Trevor; 21 great grandchildren; his siblings Jean Robinson of Cardington, Gladys Belcher of Sparta and Don (Mary) Givens of Gahana.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by a grandson Nick.

Friends may call on Monday, June 12, 2023, from 12:00 to 4:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington with the funeral service following at 4:00 PM with Reverend Lucian Baker officiating. Following the service, the burial will take place in the Glendale Union Cemetery.
