Betty R. Lawyer, age 99 of Mount Gilead passed away Thursday, August 7, 2025, at her daughter’s home. She was born on May 29, 1926, in Medina to the late Glenn and Lillian (Keith) Boyd.
Betty was a 1945 graduate of Medina High School and went on to Wooster Business School. Betty was a past member of Blue Jay Club, Morrow County Cattlemen’s Association, Seniors on Center, Buckeye Polled Hereford Association, the Election Board, as well as a past 4-H advisor. In 2006 Betty and Bob were recognized by the Morrow County Cattleman’s Association with a “Lifetime Achievement Award”, it was an honor to them for their lifetime dedication to raising beef cattle and assisting the youth of Morrow County.
Betty met Bob at the Ohio State fair where they were both exhibitors. On January 12, 1947, Betty married the love of her life, Robert “Bob Lawyer in in Granger, Ohio. They spent 65 years together at Red Star Farm, raising their family, Herefords, Boxers, Collies, and farming. Bob preceded her in death on June 14, 2012.
Betty survived by her children: Marie Bishop of Mount Gilead, John (Marcia) Lawyer of Marengo, and Mary Ann Lawyer of Mount Gilead; six grandchildren: Lisa (JR) Levering, Rob (Kellie) Bishop, Heather Thompson (Ben), Hilary (Joe) Ostrom, Drew (Tara) Lawyer, Kiara (Curtis) Grimm; thirteen great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and her sister-in-law Annamae.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Betty was preceded in death by her son-in-law Charles Bishop, her great-granddaughter Ashley Ostrom, brothers: Harold, Bob, Jimmy, and Clyde Boyd and her sister Ruth Fetzer.
Friends may call on Monday, August 11, 2025, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 11:00 AM with Pastor Mike Law and Pastor Phyllis Fetzer officiating. Following the service, the burial will take place in the Glendale Union Cemetery.
