Betty Jean (Fissell) Helman

Betty J. Helman, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away on August 14, 2024, at the age of 90. She was born on May 22, 1934, in Edison, Ohio, to the late Edger and Verna (Sellers) Fissell,

Betty was a 1952 graduate of Edison High School. She had worked at Ohio Arundale Plastics as a press operator for 10 plus years, as well as an Assembler at North Electric. Betty was a proud member of the Rainbow Club, being the daughter of a World War I veteran.

Betty's passion for gardening was evident in the beauty of her flower beds and landscapes, a testament to her nurturing spirit and love for nature. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially playing euchre and pinochle every Friday night, creating treasured memories that will live on in the hearts of those who loved and knew her.

On September 20, 1953, Betty married Donald in Cardington. In her 71-year marriage to her devoted husband, Betty found unwavering love and companionship. Together, they explored the world, making countless memories during their travels.

She is survived by her loving husband Donald, her children Diana (Jerry) Boyle of Mount Gilead and Terry (Billie) Helman of Pataskala, five grandchildren: Sonja, Jerry Jr., Andy, Zachary and Jordan; eleven great-grandchildren, and twelve great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her great-grandson Jerry "JJ" Boyle, her two brothers, Howard and Floyd Fissell and her three sisters, Wanda Siegfried, Janet Burns and Martha Neilly.

Friends may call on Friday, August 16, 2024 from 10:00AM until Noon at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington. The funeral service will immediately follow at Noon with Reverend Bill Hayes officiating. Following the service, the burial will take place in the Glendale Union Cemetery.
