Barbara J. Etgen, age 87 of Ashley passed away peacefully, surrounded by family Wednesday November 8, 2023, at Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital. She was born on November 15, 1935, in Cardington to the late Milo E. and Alda E. (McPeek) Shaffer.
Barbara was a homemaker, she loved taking care of her family and the farm. Barbara was a member of Sacred Hearts Catholic Church as well as a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed music and singing, especially karaoke, she could sing Patsy Cline like no one else.
On September 20, 1952, Barbara married Arther L. Etgen in Mount Gilead, he preceded her in death on December 18, 1995.
Barbara is survived by her children: Theresa Cremeans of Ashland, James Etgen of Ashley, Brenda (John Nemcek) Rayo of Florida; nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; her siblings: William "Bill Shaffer of Prospect, Mary Morrow of Mineola, TX., and Susie Parsons of Marion.
In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was preceded in death by her son Larry Etgen, her three brothers Earl, Robert, and George Shaffer, her sister Phyllis Shover, and her son-in-law Ted Cremeans.
Friends may call on Monday, November 13, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Sacred Hearts Church with Father Edward Shikina officiating. Following the service, the burial will take place in the Glendale Union Cemetery.
