Ruth Elaine Wuertz

Ruth Elaine (Seitz) Wuertz, 86, of Edison passed away Sunday, December 3, 2017 Marion General Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 8, 1931, the second of four girls, to parents Harold T. and Mabel Marie (Clary) Seitz in rural Vinton County, Ohio. She married Robert P. Wuertz Sr. on October 21, 1950 in Columbus, Ohio. In 1951 they moved to rural Edison. Ruth attended Richland High School and graduated at age 16. She then moved to Columbus to work at Nationwide Insurance. In 1949, she met Bob Wuertz at a square dance and they were engaged six weeks later. She was the devoted farmer's wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She worked a few years outside of the home as a secretary and in a plastics plant, but her true passion was to volunteer. She gave many hours to her church in various ways. She quilted with the Lord's Stitchers every Tuesday and was the only original member, of the group, at her death. She made "funeral pie" for many funeral meals. She loved to cook, bake and feed everyone. She kept special candy and cookies for all the grandchildren. She lived her life through her family. She enjoyed bird watching, especially the hummingbirds (her babies). She enjoyed daily visits from her grandpuppies. Ruth is survived by daughters Sharilyn (Tom) Wuertz-Owings of Edison, Lori (Greg) Konves of Lexington, and daughter-in-law Becky Wuertz of Cardington; grandchildren Gwen (Kraig) Shipman, Brandi (Joe) Orsini, Geoff (Michelle) George, Philip (Krysta) Wuertz, Ian (Asia) Connor, Kenny Wuertz, Rachelle (Nathan) Newson, Ross (Sarah) Konves, step-grandchildren Julie (Mike) McPeek and Chris, Hank and Sam Owings; 17 great-grandchildren, 4 step-great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson; Sister Rita Sams; Sisters-in-law Anna Wuertz and Mary Beekman; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her son Robert P. Wuertz, Jr.; Sisters Glenna Mae Seitz and Anne Marie Beveridge; father and mother-in-law Jacob and Bertha Wuertz. Friends may call on Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at St Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 336 W Main St, Cardington, OH 43315. The funeral service will be held immediately following with Pastor Steve Dennis officiating. Following the service, the burial will take place in the Glendale Cemetery.
