Ramsey Leonard Benson

Ramsey Leonard Benson, age 92 of Cardington died Friday, December 29, 2017 at Riverside Hospital. He was born on August 13, 1925 to the late Paul and Ordena (Ramsey) Benson. Leonard was a 1943 graduate of Cardington Lincoln High School. After graduation Leonard served his country for 3 years in the United States Marines. Leonard worked for North Electric of Mount Gilead, before working for Sherman's Hardware for 15 years, and later for U.S. Postal Service for 25 years. Leonard served on the Cardington Fire Department for 30 years, 17 of which he was the Chief. He lent a helping hand to get the Morrow County EMS started. He was a Auxiliary State Patrolman and delivered Meals on Wheels for 12 years. Leonard was a member of the American Legion Jenkins-Vaughn Post 97. On May 25, 1986, Leonard married Deborah S. (Harper) in Edison, who survives in Cardington. In addition to his wife, Leonard is survived by his three children; Roger (Maria) Benson of Stockholm, Sweden, Gary (Kathy) Benson of Atascadero, California, and Jeff (Shelly) Benson of Cardington; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by his five siblings. Friends may call on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at the funeral home at 1:30 pm with Pastor Paul Turner officiating. Following the service, burial with full Military Honors will take place in the Glendale Cemetery.
