Melvin C. Johnson, age 87, of Marengo died Tuesday morning Aug. 28, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born Nov. 30, 1930 in Mansfield to the late Lenord R. and Nellie E. (Ettinger) Johnson.
Melvin was a 1948 graduate of Marengo High School and then served in the U.S. Navy. He worked at Galion Perfection in maintenance for over 35 years and then retired from Fishburn Services. He was a life member of VFW Post 8054. Melvin enjoyed hunting and fishing.
On Oct. 21, 1955, Melvin married the former June Wood and she survives. Additional survivors include children, Elizabeth A (Marty) Zeger and Howard “Jeff” Johnson; grandchildren, Robin (Jeremy) Hinkle, Robert (Scoob) Young, Shauna (Corey) Adams, Toni (Josh) Wooddell, and Kaylee Johnson; great-grandchildren, Gracie Hinkle, Emma Hinkle, Sophia Hinkle, Abbie Hinkle, Lexi Adams, and Carter Wooddell.
Friends may call on Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington where the funeral service will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 10:00 AM. Pastor Art Wooddell will officiate, and the burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
