John David Childers

John D. Childers, age 78 of Hamlin, W.V. went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 25, 2018. He was born on July 25, 1940 to the late William and Alma (Lucas) Childers in Hamlin, W.V.

John was a 1958 graduate of Hamlin High School. After high school he would serve his country honorably during the Vietnam War in the United States Air Force.

After the war he worked for Battelle in Columbus and later at Marion Power Shovel as a salesman for 20 years, where he enjoyed being able to travel and meet people from many different nationalities. In his later years John enjoyed building and fixing computers for his small IT company he started. John was an avid coffee drinker, stating it was his one true weakness. He also enjoyed exercising and staying active. John looked forward to meeting his morning breakfast crew at Tudor’s Biscuit World.

On June 29, 1967, John married Martha L. Craddock in Columbus, OH.

In addition to his wife of 18 years, John is survived by his three daughters; Stephanie (Pastor Jay) Weaver of Cardington, Cynthia (Bill) Fletcher of Chester, W.V., and Julie (Matt) Shockley of Waldo; eight grandchildren; Jarrod, Jaylynn, Jessica, and Joy Weaver, Bill Fletcher, Mary Todd, Katelynn and Emma Shockley; two great-grandchildren; Colton King and Ellie Todd; and a loving dog Jersey.

In addition to his parents John was proceeded in death by two brothers; Robbie and William Childers.

The funeral service with full military honors will be held Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 2:00pm at Gompf Funeral Home; 440 Center St. Cardington, Ohio 43315 with Pastor Jay Weaver officiating. Burial to be scheduled at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
