Rev. Dennis T. Adkins, age 75 of Cardington passed away Friday, August 24, 2018 at Morrow County Hospital. Born on February 15, 1943 in Welch, W.V. to the late Taylor and Phoebe Merle “Birdie” (Mullens) Adkins.
Dennis worked many years as a carpenter and heavy equipment operator. He was a man of God who enjoyed church and singing gospel music. Dennis had a big part in coordinating many gospel music concerts and festivals. Known for his nickname the “Cookie Man”, Dennis loved donating cookies to all the local food pantries. He loved to be on his tractor farming and tending to his gardens.
On June 30, 1962, Dennis married Dolly (Burrows) in Justice, W.V., Dolly survives in Cardington.
In addition to his wife, Dennis is survived by his daughter Vickie (Terry Nichols) Adkins of Cardington; three sisters; Geraldine Reed of Columbus, Denise “Cricket” Hudson of Hunington, W.V., and Georgia Sammons of Pineville, W.V.; one brother; Virgil (Margie) Hackney of Grand Rapids, KY.; two grandchildren; Michael Marcum of Westerville, and Casey Marcum-Adkins (Chris Adkins) of Cardington; four great-grandchildren; Zachery Marcum, Andrew Marcum, Taylor Amnathphonthip, and Elliana Adkins; special friends and loved ones; Teresa (Dale) Pollick, Elizabeth (Shane) Allen, Sonny (Marilyn) Brown, Larry (Lea) Faust, Bud Cochran, Roger (Erma) Williams, Fred (Eve) Criswell, Carl (Ava) Hardwick, Buck (Janitye) Vaille, Harry (Etta) Marcum, and Ralph (Sue) Mullens; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dennis was proceeded in death by four brothers and three sisters; and a great-godchild, Jennifer Lyn Kempton.
Friends may call on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00pm at Gompf Funeral Home; 440 Center St. in Cardington. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at 1:00 pm with a calling hour prior to the service, Rev. Katheryn Runyon will be officiating, and burial will follow in Fulton Cemetery.
