Robert E. Gompf has been a licensed funeral
director since July 1949. During that time he has been associated
with Curl Funeral Home in Cardington and Gompf
Funeral Service. Bob served his two year funeral directorâs apprenticeship
under Shaw Davis Funeral Home in Columbus and Curl Funeral Home in Cardington.
He completed his schooling for embalmerâs licensing at Cleveland College
of Mortuary Science in 1949. He was associated with the Curl Funeral Home
in Cardington
until 1981. When a tornado destroyed the funeral home Bob took ownership
and the funeral home was moved to the current location.
Bob and his wife
June are the parents of 3 children and 8 grandchildren. He is active
in the
Cardington First United Methodist Church, the Jenkins-Vaughan
American Legion Post
# 97 and the Cardington Rotary Club. In 1999 Bob was
honored by
the Ohio Funeral
Directors for 50 years of service. Even though Bobâs son, Gene purchased
the business in 1993 Bob continues to serve the needs of families
on a daily basis.
Gene L. Gompf completed his education at the Cincinnati College of Mortuary
Science in 1985. After serving his apprenticeship under his father,
Robert Gompf, he received his license for funeral director and embalmer
in May 1986. In 1993 Gene and his wife LeAnne purchased the family
business from his father.
Gene is active in the community. He is a
member of Trinity United Methodist Church, a Lions Club member,
serves on the Hospice Board of Directors, participates in the
Mount Gilead
School Athletic Boosters and has helped with many fund raising
activities for the Gilead Christian School. All of these activities
are in addition
to being the dedicated father of five very active children.
LeAnne S. Gompf received her Funeral Directorâs
license in November 1990. She served her two year apprenticeship
under her father-in-law, Robert Gompf and her husband, Gene.
LeAnne describes her duties as Public Relations. She is involved
in many community activities including Kiwanis and serves as
Key Club advisor to the Mt. Gilead High School. She was the chairperson
and director of the Morrow County Junior Miss Scholarship program
for over 20 years. She is active in Trinity United Methodist
Church, and served as chairman for the Gilead Christian School
fund raising auction for 12 years. She is the mother of 5 very
active children.
Michalene Gompf is our newest staff member and
the first of the third generation to enter the funeral service
arena. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in December
2002 from Bowling Green State University majoring in Journalism
and
Communications with a minor in Psychology. Working here gives
Michalene the opportunity to use the skills she has learned
in college while serving her Funeral Directorâs Apprenticeship
under her father, Gene.
The oldest of the five Gompf children,
Michalene
has been active in community and church activities from her
earliest recollections. Some of her activities included church
choir and
youth group, dance, high school sports, serving as a Big
Sister with the Big Brother and Big Sister Organization and
of course,
hauling all those younger siblings everywhere.
Brenda Dye serves as our office manager. She
joined the company in January 2001. Brenda holds
an Associate Degree from Marion Technical College and is currently
working towards her bachelorâs degree from Franklin University.
Her background in office management and personnel
supervision has
given her
the knowledge and patience needed to handle the many
details of working at Gompf Funeral Service.
Brenda and
her husband
are the parents of 2 grown sons and a young daughter
still at home.
They also have 4 grandchildren. In addition to
college classes Brenda is a volunteer with Heritage Elementary
School PTO
and has been a 4-H leader and active with many community
activities.
Keith Augenstein is our general all around helper. He is always there to lend a hand in whatever way he can. He is the father of 6 children, grandfather to 24, and great-grandfather of 6. As a semi retired person Keith spends a lot of time enjoying golfing.
