Vaughn R. Cole, age 79 of Cardington died Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Marion General Hospital. He was born on March 11, 1938 to the late George and Faye (Huddleston) Cole.

Vaughn was a mason and farmer his entire life. He was the co-owner of the C & K Restaurant in Mount Gilead. Vaughn graduated from Cardington-Lincoln High School in the Class of 1957.

Vaughn enjoyed square dancing, working in his yard and with his flowers, going to yard sales and traveling to Florida in the winter. He loved cooking, camping, and tubing. Vaughn loved his grandkids and family was his # 1. Vaughn always joked around and he never knew a stranger.

Vaughn is survived by his three daughters: Betty (Steve) May, Tammy Busse, both of Mt. Gilead, and Brenda (Randy) of Miller of Cardington; long time best friend and co-worker, Bill Kanniard; 6 grandchildren: Christopher, John, and Dusty Miller, Darren May, Buddy Busse and Willy May; 10 great-grandchildren and he loved each and every one and they were all very special to him; two brothers, Wayne Cole Sr. and Carl Cole of Cardington; step-brother, Harold Bean; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Vaughn was preceded in death by 4 brothers: Clyde, Herbert, Paul and Harold Cole; 3 sisters: Dorothy Dye, Myrtle Howard, and Helen Hunt; one grandson, Derek May and one great-grandson, Wade May; 3 step-brothers and 1 step-sister.

Friends may call on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington. The funeral service will be held Thursday, September 28, 2017 at the funeral home at 11:00 am with Pastor Paul Turner officiating. Following the service the burial will take place in the Glendale Cemetery.
