Shirleen Walter

Shirleen Walter, age 83, of Mansfield died Monday June 29, 2015 in the Crestwood Care Center in Shelby. She was born Jan. 8, 1932 in Cardington to the late Orville D. and Aldene ( Taber ) Philbrook. Shirleen was a 1950 graduate of Cardington-Lincoln High School and was a lifelong homemaker. She had worked as a telephone operator in Mt. Gilead and then at Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Chicago. She and Clarence were foster parents, welcoming fourteen children into their home through the years. Shirleen also had volunteered for the Meals on Wheels. On Sept. 16, 1956 in Cardington, Shirleen married Clarence E. Walter and he survives. She is also survived by her children; Kit Walter of Galion, Tab ( Sara ) Walter of Murphy, TX., and Marvin "Marty" Walter of San Diego, CA.; four grandchildren and three great-great grandchild. In addition to her parents, Shirleen was preceded in death by her three brothers; Duane, Bill and Eugene Philbrook. Friends may call on Sunday, July 5, 2015 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington where the funeral service will take place on Monday, July 6, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Pastor Paul Walter of Galion Grace Point Church will officiate and the burial will follow in the Glendale Cemetery.
