Howard E. French, age 98 of Mount Gilead died Monday, May 1, 2017 at his home. He was born on November 6, 1918 to the late Willard and Rachel (Jenkins) French.
Howard was a farmer and enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting coon, squirrels, and rabbits.
Howard married Marian Annabelle Penwell in Kentucky and she preceded him in death.
Howard is survived by his children: Howard French Jr. of Crestline, Donald (Pat) French of Mount Gilead, Frank French of Mount Gilead, Delcia Phillips of Crestline, Sally (Bill Morton) French of Mount Gilead, Betty (Tom) Hall of Galion, Tressa (Ronald) Young of Mount Gilead, Lisa (David Rathburn) Geyer of Galion, Darlene (Frank) Delancy of Marion, Disa (Dee Marcell) Doolittle of Missouri, Christopher French, and Cristine French both of Galion; siblings: Thelma French of Indiana, Stan French of Kentucky, and Marie Honacker of Upper Sandusky; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, Howard was preceded in death by four children: Judy Morton, Robert, John, and Crystal French; 3 brothers: Clifton, Ellwood and Ralph French; and two sisters, Betty and Cindy.
Friends may call on Thursday, May 4, 2017 from11:00AM until noon at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington. The funeral service will follow at noon with Chaplain Jeff Slider of Hospice of Morrow County officiating. Following the service the burial will take place in the Greenlawn Cemetery.
